I suspect you approached Little, Big incorrectly. "Not quite clicking" is an essential part of the book. I suppose I can understand the "imagery flows right then it's hard to stop", but at the pace of 10 words a second the figurative "resolution" of those images inevitably decreases. When I read Gormenghast, I would sometimes read out certain sequences aloud, partially so that the scene can fully form inside my head. I recommend checking out just how powerful the Swelter intro is when read in voice: slowly, and purposefully.
On the other hand, I can see how reading an epic fantasy adventure in high WPM makes sense, because my own speed is substantially higher when reading something lightweight.

Because even compressing pic related it is 1MB. 1641x770 isn't even small for 20 books, the titles can be seen clearly
