I'm reading Moby-Dick now and I'm planning to read Suttree before tackling Blood Meridian. Is this a sufficient introduction to McCarthy's ideas and style, or should I try to tackle the Border Trilogy as well?

What path did you anons take?

Thanks for wasting my time with this book /lit/.

The characters were indistinguishable besides the judge. They all spoke and acted exactly the same and I could barely keep track of who was alive. "The kid" is barely mentioned for most of the book only to come back in the end as the main character. Then you're told he "held back" from the slaughter of Indians, though there's no evidence for that in the preceding text.

Tell me three (3) characteristics that distinguish Toadvine from Tobin or the kid from Glanton. There are none.

Toadvine is the bandit with brands on his face, Tobin is the bandit who used to be a priest (sorry "novitiate" to be more pretentious), the kid is the bandit whose name you never learn, Glanton is the lead bandit who's supposed to be mad and crazed (spooooky!). He never really does or says anything mad or crazed though, in fact he barely does or says anything at all!

Half of the images were effective but the other half were stupid and needless, sometimes almost senseless. Some passages were really brilliant, I can't deny that. But

>"For this will to deceive that is in things luminous may manifest itself likewise in retrospect and so by sleight of some fixed part of a journey already accomplished may also post men to fraudulent destinies."

is just powdery Faulkner turd

The only thing I can say for it is that I learned many new words that will be useful if I every find myself following a wagon-train through the desert.

Whatcha been reading and what do you think of it so far?
Pic related. I'm hooked. I read 200 pages across two days I couldn't put it down. McCarthy is such a good stylist and his pessimistic view of humanity is interesting.

Was McCarthy abused by one as a child?
