How do you feel about "art for art's sake", and didacticism in literature inherently detracting from its value?

Fantasy literature is medieval european in tone because it is medieval European in origin. Tolkien drew most of his influence from works like Beowulf. Of course Tolkien was not the first but he essentially unintentionally shaped with his quite good work a shallow derivative pulp genre.

Do you act like a "bad" person when no one is watching or do you not do it out of some sort of code of ethics? If I had to give a quick answer a few days ago I would've said "I'm le edgy nihilist egotist" but I donated to wikipedia a few days ago and realised that I'm a generic good person. I'm starting to regret it because no doubt they contribute to SJW style campaigns. I think I may just buy a book the next time I feel like giving to someone. I think that would please Papa Stirner.

Also I guess internet / CCTV etc. make it more likely that someone will start some Reddit / Buzzfeed style new sincerity campaign against you. The more petty and unimportant your indiscretion, the bigger the backlash (that's how I'd imagine it.)

2. Are hardbacks becoming bigger? I was initially shocked by their obnoxious sizes (I had only ordered paperbacks from amazon and at one point I hadn't gone to a fiction library in years). Its like publishers realised that ebooks are unbeatable in logistical terms and that the only people who buy hardbacks also want to put their books up on their shelves for show.
