I watched 10 minutes. What was Peterson thinking? I mean he knows Dawkins was a horsemen of the new atheists and someone he personally criticized in his debates with sam harris. He said Dawkins' ideas were shallow and unsophistated and his meme theory is inferior to archetypes. They have nothing in common besides a tenuous shared disgust with PC language. Does he think he can play Tolkien to Dawkin's CS Lewis here and they can bond over cancel culture the way he does with other IDW people?
There's a fundamental difference between the way he and Dawkins thinks. For all his edgy rebellious flavor of atheism Dawkins is a legit scientist, meanwhile Peterson is a pseud who keeps venturing outside of his field of psychology to make these flimsy analogies based on whatever sparknotes summary he read on molecular biology/AI/computational neuroscience/evpsych. He's worse than Michio Kaku. At least as a theoretical physicist Kaku has enough grounding in high level mathematics to talk in concrete terms when he needs to. Peterson doesn't even have that. He'll take respectable concepts grounded in science and extrapolate them to infinity to justify Christian Universalism. In the video he takes a simple concept like female mate selection, and then somehow concludes there's a Chomsy-esque neurological structure in female brains that encodes the image of the ideal Man, aka Jesus. And this was all written in the bible as Man is created in the image of God. And the more you act like Jesus the more sexually fit you are. Really? That's his big idea? Trying to establish some biological reality to those "what will jesus do" bracelets? Is Elon Musk a prophet? Or maybe Genghis Khan must be really close to being a God Emperor. I mean he must know biologists are put off by any talk about directionality or end goal in evolution yet he still invited Dawkins to hear him prattle on about this.
Peterson's the kind of guy to tell you to "read more" and only to make 10 hours worth of lectures on pic related.
