I got recommended picrel recently, has any anons given it a read? If so, what did you think and would it be worth my time?

Thoughts on The King In Yellow by Robert W. Chambers? Try-hard edgy bullshit, or is there some substance to it? From what I know it was an influence on Lovecraft and probably more since.

I just read this a what the fuck, I expected horror short stories like H.P. Loevcraft and the first part was like that, but halfway through it was just a collection of love stories about upper class guys from New England dating French girls.

What the hell /lit/?

I'm looking for more unsettling fiction like The King In Yellow. I only enjoy horror which can be easily explained by drugs or madness. I like to read about overwhealming passion that fear can become. Is there any book that comes to your mind, anon?

I would prefer to avoid Lovecraft, I gave him a shot five or six times, he always felt too direct and too dark to be treated seriously. On the other hand I loved Poe, but I've alread read most of him.

Whats the big deal with this book? I have been hearing about it for ages, about how it directly influenced many horror writers.

It was good but not amazing. The romance stories were by far the best ones.

I'm kinda disappointed.

Popular television series aside, The King in Yellow really is spooky, weird and cerebral.

Now I see where Lovecraft got his ideas to make his stories from. I like Chamber way more though, his writing is much much better. (like most compared to LC)

What are some pieces of fiction that are concerned with a fictional work of literature, i.e. The King in Yellow?
