Said alien species are by definition surprisingly alien, and neither you nor anyone else has any idea of how these aliens would react to First Contact. I don't remember who said something along the lines that all of us are attributing a whole lot of motivations and preconceived notions to beings that we know absolutely nothing of.
Also one other thing that doesn't get mentioned often is that even if you tweak the Drakes Equation to be favorable to creation of life, said life would on average appear 20000 light years apart. That's 20k light years between each and every civilizations - you'd be hard pressed to communicate, let alone kill each other.
So, yeah, while you could have alien horrors like Scramblers from Blindsight, you could also end up with hot, blue skinned chicks who just want you to live and prosper (and maybe put two in the pink and one in the stink).
