I'm looking for any books about the Vietnam War. Preferably ones that follow an individual's account of the war.

Hello, I need some lighthearted books that are not for pretentious enlightened morons. Something that is pleasant to read is the only thing I need.

I've been on a schedule of 50 pages a day (unless they're the last pages of a book) for like four days but I happened to pick a book to start with that has small text and therefore a high amount of text-per-page, and have coincidentally had some of the busiest days in months starting on the day I started doing it. I was a day behind until yesterday, when I finished like 27 pages of a book and then read 50 of a different one. Going by time wouldn't work for me because I would lose focus and the time spent wouldn't be equal. Going by pages is better for me, and since I can do a book with little text on a busy day, hopefully I can keep the habit up when I'm not so busy.

I want to start writing a SHTF themed book but I don't know where to start.
It's supposed to take place in mid-war Ontario.
I won't go into full detail but it's basically a North American Syria when the book takes place.
What are some good SHTF/war novels I could read to give me a good idea about it?
inb4 "There's a writefag general on /k/" I barely got any help there

Also, the novel will be heavily /out/ and /k/ themed (minus the memes)
