>Fagles translation
>By god, I’d rather slave on earth for another man
This is a huge translation error, by the way.

>money made institutions such as slavery possible. Slavery way predates money

If savages can count, then they can into credit and debt, i.e. they already have fiat money.

When you don't have a (strong enough) social institute to forcefully beat your debts out, then debts are good and act for social cohesion. (You are indebted to your mom for raising you, while any monetary recompense for this would imply cutting off any ties with her, essentially signalling 'Fuck off, I don't owe you nothing')
Ancient (pre-Classical) slavery is more akin to being a (slightly inferior) household family member, submerged into a network of human interactions.

When you have means to forcefully extract debts, then the role of debt drastically changes. That's why usury is so universally hated.

>Commies will have you believing that flat-out slavery is a viable economic system in the long-run. When people are free, they'll create of their own accord.
