What the actual fuck is this shit? Is this supposed to be a story? People always refer to it a a comedy, are there jokes or am I just a brainlet. Why is it considered one of the great 20th century works?

A formless and dull mass of phony folklore, a cold pudding of a book. Conventional and drab, redeemed from utter insipidity only by infrequent snatches of heavenly intonations. Detest it. A cancerous growth of fancy word-tissue hardly redeems the dreadful joviality of the folklore and the easy, too easy, allegory. Indifferent to it, as to all regional literature written in dialect. A tragic failure and a frightful bore.

Have people here actually read this book?

Hello, /lit/.

After all this time, I have finally succeeded in my efforts.

That is right. After three years of constant analysis and constant turmoil, I have done it.

I have completely cracked Finnegans Wake.

The entire plot, it's dwelling of dreams and themes have all been put into a coherent narrative in thousands of notes.

But I will never release this unto the world.

Not once will I share the glory of what I have found.

It is pure genius and perhaps, the greatest novel ever written.

Good God, it brings me joy to know I hold in my hands the greatest novel ever written and I understand it in its entirety without sharing it with you fools or the masses that crawl these streets living their pseudo-intellectual lives.

For this, I will be rewarded by God himself, for cracking the code, that is, Finnegans Wake.

Goodbye, children. Daddy is free.

>Write a few incredibly difficult but critically acclaimed books

>proceed to publish a book of pure gibberish

>People will now give you the benefit of the doubt and assume they can't understand it because they're not smart enough or haven't analyzed hard enough

>everybody is now pressured into praising the book as if it were the emperor's new clothes

>intellectuals continue wasting away years of their lives even half a century after your death

Is this the greatest long con in the history of literature?
