James Lindsay is incredibly autistic about queer/other theories. I haven't read his books but he has some good essays on it. If you want to know the theory from their own perspective, read Foucault.

He has fun psychology lectures and he's an entertaining speaker for sure, but the man is deeply mentally ill. He basically never got out of his young adult "existential" phase; it never resolved conclusively for him, so he's stuck in this purgatory of wanting to take the leap of faith while the rational part of his psyche holds him back. Like many, he can't let go of his childhood Christianity because it lent makeshift order to a mad world. Instead of accepting life's absurdity and making it his home, he ascribes cosmic significance to his fight against it.

Unfortunately for him, and contrary to the Western mythology he's absorbed, those who dedicate their lives to struggle, strife, and sacrifice are usually miserable and restless. There's a reason the concept of heaven was needed as the carrot in Protestantism. Peterson is a guy who believes in the ethos of Christianity but not in the eternal reward.

Imagine what a dreadful existence that would be.

Hey /lit/, I've had an idea for a novel floating around my head for a while, something influenced by a mixture of Twin Peaks, the X-Files, and Moonrise Kingdom. What I want to know is how I should go about starting? I have everything fleshed out--characters, backstories, the plot, absolutely everything that I need but I can't get the first few paragraphs going. My issue is that I'm better at writing the action, but I have an issue with the story leading up to it.
