SPOILERS AHEAD

So, uh, what happened with Vheissu? That part of the narrative was unceremoniously abandoned after Florence.

How/why did Veronica turn into the Bad Priest? Seems like a waste of talent.

What's the source of Veronica's obsession with turning (part of?) her body inanimate?

Why all the shitting on Wittgenstein?

Why did Paola pretend to be black, why whore herself out, why get back with Pappy at the end?

I'm about 60-70% through this, I feel like I'm looking forward to finishing more because I will start reading something else rather than actually wanted to read it.

The only other book of his I've read so far is The Crying of Lot 49.

Can anyone tell me what this is about? It's assigned reading for an upper level American lit course and I'm having some troubles. I'm well read and it's also not my first Pynchon novel, it's my third.

Every time I begin to follow the narrative or trace some consistencies within character behavior to come up with character sketches he completely throws the reader off.
This novel is not only difficult, it feels like it's impenetrable at this point. For example, the way chapter three is supposedly told from several different characters viewpoints. I wouldn't have figured this out for the life of me if I didn't look it up online. My prof said that chapter didn't make sense to him and he read it 7 times so we shouldn't worry about it.
A NYT reviewer (inb4 >nyt) also said in some article on V's anniversary that he read it twice but couldn't figure out what it was about. There are no summaries of the book or the plot online that I could find.

I'm basically just asking for some much needed help from the Pinecone lovers outthere, I'm halfway through the book now and don't want to walk out feeling like a pleb like the rest of my classmates. What specifically should I be looking for as I finish the book?
Can anyone give me any details on what they gleaned about specific characters or key narratives going on in the story?

Also anything goes V thread if you wanna discuss it.

Much love,
xx

So V. was Victoria Wren and represented the interplay of the animate/inanimate?
What was Vheissu?
Did Stencil die at the end?

I just finished chapter 3, which I understand is one of the most important in terms of plot development. Am I right to assume it was intended to be vague, and that the blanks will be filled in later?

Just finished V. What's the deal, she became inanimate (lots of talk about this during fausto's apologia) and got disassembled during the siege? I'm having trouble understanding what literally happened, though the rest isn't so intimidating.
