This sounds exactly like what I have experienced. I write quite well, but my English Prof. refuses to give me higher than a B on anything I have turned in or revised. So, nonetheless, I will have sub-4.0 semester this time around. It has nothing to do with grammar but, instead, that she focuses on "what if you were to" or "maybe next time you should" kind of crap....
