pretty bad, unimaginative, trivial. not boring but not entertaining either, the prose is not very good, the characters are boring and forgettable. but the worst is probably the plot, it's so retarded and everyone is so fucking dumb in this book and nothing makes sense. the aliens aren't alien at all. the empire and politics and everything is too simple and unoriginal. i read it till the end, it's barely ok. i wouldn't recommend it.

the other first contact with aliens i read is Blindsight and it's miles better than this. anyone know other good first contact books?
