Nobody has self-respect anymore

Finally got to read picrel, it was a good but weird one. There are three books here, two are good and one is pretty lame. The first is the title's story, a hardcore military sci-fi, quite liked. The second is Jack Crow's tale which is also good but pretty disconnected in tone from the first, it's basically an adventure space opera. Then you got the MC backstory which is simply stupid, an absolute cliché full of melodrama. Thank God that was over fast. Imo this could have worked as two separate novellas and without the "MC is a super special guy" part, just a regular soldier that is really good at his job fighting his own personal war and going mad in the process. It's weird people barely mention the second half, if you are not into that shit you will hate half of the book. I read some people saying those parts helps to build the climax but I think it just breaks the action for no good reason.

At least now I get the comparisons between this and The Subterrenean War series, and to be quite honest it does the same story but better. The first book basically fuses Jack and Felix into one guy that spends 90% of the story inside his armor getting PTSD without time for the P (man is shell-shocked from day one and the war doesn't pause for him) with less "war bad" and more "war is a racket".
