Yah, I wanted to mention something along these lines. that discourse is part of the larger body of the thing itself and is not completely exterior to it.
So It can be argued that it can never be fully done away with, though you can put it to the side for a time to focus on the work itself, but it cant be fully disregarded.

(btw, never actually read 1984, but seems like a good example. I could also mention ones that I have a more personal connection with like Great Gatsby, but I think its less obvious of an example)
