Is it bad if a large chunk of my scifi inspiration is from anime?

Things like Macross, Outlaw Star, Gundam, and Legend of the Galactic Heroes, to be precise.

I just feel as though a lot of western scifi just doesn't touch my buttons the way I'd like them to.

Also, any ideas? I was just going to do a space colony war thing, but I feel like everyone and their nanna does that.
