Yes, and I have read them both. Degree in science, Athiest until I was 31. Loved crushing Christians for sport. But there are cracks my friend, and that's how God gets in.

These pictures are false gods, brother. That's not a real woman. Real women are full of bad breath and strange hairs that grow up and double speed from moles and gnarly toes and chunky back rolls. They are all like that- oh sure they hold their glory for a bit- bit stay in the long game. You are 35, bascially just coming into your prime.

Go for the Queen of Hearts. Stay positive. Find out what you really want, what your real values are.

This is some 10/10 thoughtful posting happening tonight.

One more thought-

Worrying that no one likes you may be valid. But no one likely hates you either, especially if you've been hiding behind 9 proxies of irony for so long. Vulnerability, that can only happen between you and God, who knows you 100% intimately. A close marriage or friendship is the only thing that can come close to the nakedness we experience in deep repentful prayer and worship. In the other places in the world we can only hope to strive for "good enough" and know that one day when we dwell in the Kingdom of God we can be as we are and know fully we are loved.

Is anyone else disillusioned with literature? I grew up always believing that something like the sublime exists in literature, something transcendental, like these books had deep and fundamental insights about human nature that were inaccessible to my young mind at the time. I ascribed to literature a sort of holy, almost fucking magical quality. But after studying it for years and years, I'm starting to lose it. Literature is starting to seem less and less significant. Where are the deep insights, the transcendental experiences? All these years I've maintained the belief that if I just hold on long enough, I will be able to find an appreciation of literature that allows for these things, but I feel like I was wrong. The effects of art are so transient and so much more superficial than I wished they were. It seems like there really isn't anything profound left in this modern mediocre world.
