This is Murakami's most-discussed book by far, but I think it reads like a ham-fisted parody of his style.

Bitch are you serious
Read more Conrad; you're missing out.

I've just read the first 80 pages of this and it's the most boring and uninspiring writing I've encountered in a while. Yeah, I get that there's some metaphysical shit going on, but it's all so blandly written that whatever plot twists he has lined up won't make up for it.

Should I keep reading it anyways? Seriously considering cutting this one short and putting my time and effort to more worthwhile books.

I loved Nakata's story and was bored and repulsed by Kafka's story. Are there any Murakami books I'd like? Or just similar surreal fantasy books that are similar to Nakata's?

I just finished the english translation of pic related yesterday. Really enjoyed it, thoughts? discussion? I feel like I should probably read it again soon to try and meditate on some of the more complicated/inscrutable elements of the story. Like what's up with the teacher's sex dream and her subsequent period? What is the village over the mountain? Is johnnie walker actually kafka's dad?

Anyways, good book. I like how seamlessly it blends plot and philosophy

So is he actually good or just a meme?

He gets praise, but the top review on goodreads for this book in particular (supposedly his best) is one star and says its unreadable. Whats the truth?
