I don’t really understand “creating” values. We as a species already have a good idea on how nice or mean a person can be if they decided to pursue one extreme or the other, so it’s weird to me for someone to say that they are going to “determine” how much they care about other people.

Is Tolkien genre fiction? If not, what separates Tolkien from every other fantasy writer? Do you need to have a sufficiently good prose, or be academically studied before you count as "literary fiction"?
Basically I don't see how this distinction is coherent at all, convince me.

What are some actual, essential works of contemporary analytic philosophy?
I see their big names a lot, and read summaries on encyclopedias like Stanford, but I'm lost as to what to actually pick up. Preferably I'd like to see an analytic approach to metaphysics and epistemology at work.
