Reading through Freud and one thing has struck me. None of these motherfuckers have any proof of their claims. Every branch of psychoanalysis (Jungian, Freudian, Lacanian) is completely unfalsifiable. This has unnerved me as I now realize the entire field of therapy is complete bullshit. Is the unconscious mind even real? Is there even proof of that?

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to take my reading on psychoanalysis? I've read Freud's introductory lectures as well as some essays by him on dreams but that's about it.

Is there more essential Freud I'm missing or should I jump to others like Lacan or Jung?

I've seen Jordan Peterson mention Jung a lot and he seems like the most relevant disciple of Freud. He also seems to speak a lot about alienation, lack of meaning in life, and how to deal with it which is of personal interest to me. However I hear Zizek reference Lacan a lot, although it's always in a very metaphorical sense and I don't see him having much pragmatic applications.

So, any suggested reading?
