So /lit/, I just don't get poetry. I don't mean I think it's bad, I literally just do not understand it. Rhyming is all fine and good, but what is the point? It seems like less of an art and more of an exercise in vocabulary. I've never seen any ideas communicated in poetic form that wouldn't have been better said using standard phrasing.

Maybe somebody has some examples that can help me get this? I do want to be able to appreciate it, but it's like trying to appreciate modern "art" to me.

>buy a hardback compendium of beat generation poems and short stories
>mfw i grew tired of beat writers almost as soon as I started reading them

So, everything's up in the air at the moment. Inbetween teaching conversational english and preparing for uni i'll probably just reread some Žižek.
