-observe your self and whatever arises inside of you and outside of you, such as your breath
--you can then unify your self (which you take as your mind, typically)
or
--you can dissociate your self from what you observe

on any case, boredom, angst, solitude is the best way to acquire knowledge. nothing is gained mobility, and immobility of body and of mind reveals the reality.

I went through an existentialist depression as a result of my personal failures for an entire year. What I originally defined as who was and what I conceived my future would be all fell apart, with me feeling both that it was all my fault and that it was out of my control. Right now I'm going through a phase where I'm wallowing away without purpose with nothing but the past to muddle my mind. The way I see it (and I could be wrong), I either have the choice to divorce myself from my past and create myself new purpose or wallow away the rest of my life in this depression, but what holds me back is that who I was is still very much who I am and who I want to become is still influenced by that.

So, /lit/ recommend me (primarily philosophical) literature to read to better understand my predicament and to help me get through it. Also some literature to get a introductory understanding of existentialism.

Why does /lit/ hate existentialism?

I can't help but notice that it gets shit on here all the time, but its never quite defined why.
