I've read 6-10 hours a day for a year, ran 5km every day in 25 minutes and meditated for half an hour every day. I've restricted access to the internet/electronics for only 1 hour a day.
My attention span is still shit, I read proper books at 10 pages an hour genre fiction at around 15 pages an hour.
Whenever I read moderately complex sentences (i.e something that isn't just >He killed the brown dog.) I have to read them 3 times and then move onto the next one and subvocalise the entire sentence about 3 times before moving on.

I read moby dick at a rate of 6 to 12 pages an hour, mostly 6-8 pages an hour.
Blood meridian was around 8-12 pages an hour.
For some reason I've actually gotten slower since then, I'm reading heart of darkness at a rate of 6 pages an hour. Whenever I look at a sentence the words are so familiar to me I just can't parse their meaning, its like my brain refuses to do anything even though I'm scanning words I've seen thousands of times before with my eyes.
How do I read 20 pages an hour? How do I get the text to flow like it did in my childhood? I remember up until 13 I could finish books (airport fiction) in one day and never lose the meaning of the words, now every other few sentences at most and my mind just goes blank, I struggle a little, then all of a sudden I'm back to understanding for a second then it goes again, the prose stops flowing and I have to regress even though I just subvocalised the entire sentence (I can't understand if I don't).

How do I increase my attention span? I deprived myself of sensory overload for this long and it hasn't done anything, I just got even more agitated and bored and slower at reading. So slow, so unbelievably slow, some days I would get up, run, meditate and then proceed to just stare at a page for a good while before finally getting going, reading at a rate of 10 pages an hour. The prose translation of the iliad with its simple syntax and generally no difficulty at all took me 5 hours to read around 40 pages, all the while my attention span going in and out, sometimes I could get a paragraph done, then a second later back to one sentence a millennia and a second later I just fall asleep

I'm 21 years old and english is my first language
