Ok guys /lit/erary confession time!
Confess your deep, dark secrets about your book buying/reading habits!

I don't read novels by female authors
I judge books by their cover picture even after reading the back cover synopsis
modern American literary fiction - from 1990 to now - is all garbage compared to the rest of the world
I own an e-reader, but still buy physical books as well
I hate writers that feel the need to continue stories of other writers - I'm looking at you Gregory Maguire & your Wicked series - it is a douche bag and uncreative move

>I just don't believe you, and find your facile and pointless existence amusing. :-)

Here's a protip for not sounding like an enormous faggot on the internet: try not to sound like a usurper emperor sitting on the throne waxing Palpatine on the hero in some japanese role playing game when you're on a message board for rejects and outcasts, it exposes you for the tremendous fresh-out-of-middle-school retard you are.

Can /lit/ help me find a book?
I picked it up at a used bookstore out of the free bin years ago, it wasn't that great but I loved it. I remember it had a very green, busy cover with two masks.

The story was generally about a man who could in his sleep or a trance state travel to another world/dimension sort of thing, and was trying to help this hunted woman who had to wear her sisters' faces as masks because it was all she had. He was married and they were both some sort of researcher, so they tried to sort this out using scientific methods. There was a lot of drama after he had sex with the woman he was trying to help in her world, and I remember parts where her sisters were killed by being burned over fires inside giant metal bulls.

This is all I have and I have exhausted my google-fu. Anyone read this? I've seen a lot of copies of it over time, but I lost mine at school when I was around 14, and always meant to buy it again and never did. Now my husband wants to read it and I can't remember the name.

Thanks for any help, and I know this is kinda trashy writing we're talking about, but it stuck with me when I was a kid and it's something I'd like to share.

Okay, Hi /lit/

I like a good book, but I don't know what to read. I'm just out of highschool and my favorite books are all that you all probably scoff at (Fight Club, HP, Eragon) I'm looking for good fantasy novels and good science fiction too. Only real science fiction I've read is the first Hitchhiker, although I have the Ultimate edition.

tl;dr /lit/ newfag looking for guides on what and who to read.

I'm looking for some advice from you /lit/ guys on this book I'm going to start writing sometime soon. The hell if I know if I'll ever finish it, how good it'll be or if I'd even take the time to drag it to a publisher.

What I do know is that I love to write, it's a great way for me to burn some time and I've been meaning to do this for a while. At this point the only things that I can really think of for a setting is a medieval/high fantasy sort of world. What kind of things would you folks enjoy seeing in a book like that? Should it be a Tolkien-esque world, Salvatore styled? My biggest issue is on how to shape the world itself seeing as how there have been many different takes on the fantasy setting.
