>dude what is biblical accurate angels were drug induced visions lmao

Really? This is what I imagine trip reports from reddit to be like. Why is this book touted as a classic of psychedelia? I love Huxley but this was awful.

What did /lit/ go to university for and what's your favorite book?

I went for electrical engineering (I enjoyed it but I wish I'd got my degree in Physics) and got my minor in Philosophy

My favorite book is the Doors of Perception. It's not the "Best" book I've read but it's my favorite.

Can anyone recommend me some books similar to Huxley's Doors of Perception. They don't have to be drug related, the only necessity is the intersection of philosophy and psychology. That intersection is incredibly interesting to me.

I've listened to McKenna talks and it sounds like gibberish and empty platitudes, his groupies seem pretty zombiefied too.

Doors of Perception and Heaven and Hell by Huxley might be more interesting and valuable. I haven't read them yet but the synopsis' on Wikipedia sound great.

Plus Huxley was a smart cultured writer not just some dumb hippy.

>By 12:30pm, a vase of flowers becomes the "miracle, moment by moment, of naked existence". The experience, he asserts, is neither agreeable nor disagreeable, but simply "is". He likens it toMeister Eckhart's "istigheit" or "is-ness", andPlato's "Being" but not separated from "Becoming". He feels he understands theHinduconcept ofSatchitananda, as well as theZenkoanthat, "the dharma body of the Buddha is in the hedge" and Buddhistsuchness. In this state, Huxley explains he didn't have an "I", but instead a "not-I". Meaning and existence, pattern and colour become more significant than spatial relationships and time. Duration is replaced by a perpetual present.[38

>Reflecting on the experience afterwards, Huxley finds himself in agreement with philosopherC. D. Broadthat to enable us to live, the brain and nervous system eliminate unessential information from the totality of the 'Mind at Large'.[39]

Pihkal a chemical live story by the chemist Dr. Alexander Shulgin and his wife might interest you too.

read this instead
>The Doors of Perception is a book by Aldous Huxley. Published in 1954, it elaborates on his psychedelic experience under the influence of mescaline in May 1953. The book takes its title from a phrase in William Blake's 1793 poem The Marriage of Heaven and Hell.[1] Huxley recalls the insights he experienced, ranging from the "purely aesthetic" to "sacramental vision",[2] and reflects on their philosophical and intellectual implications.

Sup, an il/lit/erate here

I have some time on my hands and wish to cultivate myself. I have taken a look at the lit top 100 chart but most books seem extremely long (Infinite Jest, Catch-22, Gravity's Rainbow, Ulysses).

It's been a while since I last read a book but I remember liking 1984, Animal Farm, Brave New World and Catcher in the Rye. I mainly enjoy sci-fi, dystopian novels and crime/thrillers but I'm open to anything really. I didn't like Under the volcano (a /lit/ recommandation) and found Neuromancer and The Man In The High Castle rather boring.

tl;dr I'm looking for some classics under 300 pages long. I'm planning on starting with pic related.
