Foundation

Have you read all the books? I did 20 years ago and loved it. I think the first three books along with Foundation and Earth were my favorites. I wasn't and still am not into science fiction, but this seemed to be written for non-sci-fi fans to like.

How would you rank the books in the series?

I'd like to be convinced to try again. I really really WANT to like this book. It just feels so sterile.

I have a question about Isaac Asimov's Foundation series.
There is a certain character in the second book, who introduced himself as Magnifico the clown, who had a specific appearance.
Could Isaac Asimov as a biochemist base "scarecrow anatomy" on real-life symptoms?

Hey /lit/ newfag to lit here. I spend most of my time in /out/ and /k/. I don't know your customs. Anyway, I read Issac Asimov's Foundation. I was wondering: Is the rest of the series worth reading? What are some God tier science fiction novels? (Other than Dune, everyone always answers with Dune)

Isaac Asimov thread. Preferably discussion and thoughts on the Foundation saga. I've read these books about 4 or 5 times already and i love them. True works of sci-fi literature

After somehow assiduously avoiding Asimov's seminal "masterpiece" for over 10 years since I began reading sci-fi, I decided to dip into this ponderous tome.

To my surprise and disappointment, I found "Foundation" to be an exceptionally terrible "book", totally undeserving of the praise it has received here. As some of the other reviewers have pointed out, the writing style is of a very poor quality indeed. It is not only very dull and dry, but it is also totally lacking in any kind of style or art. The dialogue is simply dreadful, the character development is nonexistent, and the story is pointless and not at all well structured. The fact that this alleged "novel" is really a collection of short stories is readily apparent, as there is no cohesion and very poor correlation between sections. This is not memorable writing in any way and it has no redeeming qualities as a work of literature. In fact, the only time I should ever like to mention it again is as an example of poor writing, atrocious story-telling, and science-fiction that is totally wanting for any kind of inspiration.

So I guess it's time I read Foundation, The only Assimov book I've read was End of Eternity.
What Foundation shoudl I start with?

I've never read the Foundation series, and I want to. Should I go by chronological order or publication order?
