Where does this notion of 'conclusion' based thinking these days come up?

Instead of looking at the logical validity of the arguments presented it seems correct to say that many will only associate with a particular philosophy if it reaffirms their own, personal, previous convictions.

Why is this sort of thinking harmful? They are relying on themselves, without any prior inputs. To say that all that matters emotionally is the individual's self is to deny that civilization has been progressing for thousands of years. We need direction to a certain degree, necessitating that some of our actions should be predetermined, while others must be free (which is validated by Game Theory).

Communism is a completely deterministic system though, this is not good for the people if they value free will to any considerable degree.

/lit/, any packages coming in the mail?

There's always a backup after New Year's. I have Roger Bacon's Opus Majus and John Harsanyi's Rational Behavior and Bargaining Equilibrium in Games and Social Situations.

I also will be ordering Nicole Oresme's On Seeing the Stars on Monday, but I have to get paid first since the book costs $140... :/
