Not exactly.

We're selling them for $10 each, you get several copies which is why I said $20. Really, they might not even sell for $10, that isn't definite either - it might be as low as $7.

I don't need to run this down because it's not really good business, but I don't want any misconceptions out there. The offset cost is about 3$ a book and the letterpress cover another 1$, plus a significant amount of labor. So that's a material cost of 4$ for a book that will sell for 7-10$. Furthermore, only 400 of those books will ever make it to market, and probably much less; many will be given away to generate interest, as well as to writers (who there may potentially be many of).

On top of all that, any books sold at market would be subject to 30 - 50 % retail fee. In the end, the publisher will get $1 - $2.50 a book which, if everything went perfectly, would be $400 - $1,000. And that's before considering payments to the authors and the dollar value of the labor inherent in designing, printing, and distributing a journal.

I wish we were making a cool $8,000 off this, but that's absolutely absurd. This is an honest endeavor to publish a journal of artistic integrity; the limited profit we could possibly make is only enough to fund further issues.

I hope that clears things up a bit. Please forgive me for talking business.
