Given this ontological primacy of conscious meaning (that I very much tend towards myself) how are we to contemplate and create (things like art, discourse, friendship) in a society who’s neoliberal epistemology disavows/feigns ignorance of the primacy of the Self in all things. All around me I see pervading the sciences, politics, and the social sphere, an underlying ideology of ontological Cartesianism: “we are objects experiencing in a world of objects”. Mayhaps this is a loaded and heavy question but I’m sure you’ve thought about this too. Badiou says we need the “truth with a small t to become the truth with a big T”, a dialectical materialism acknowledging universal truths and not just bodies and language (matter and the symbolic order it exists in). Is the answer to be found in logic and love, as Badiou says, or perhaps in the Kierkegaardian “leap of faith” of society from this nihilistic-accelerationist platform onto some kind of return to the Great Mother. What do you think?
