I'm a poli sci major and would like to better familiarize myself with Marx and have two questions for you guys

1. Are there particular philosophers whose works I should have a substantial knowledge of in order to understand Marx? I think I've heard Hegel mentioned in connection with him - of whom I have practically 0 knowledge of (I've only ever taken philosophy 101; I read philosophical essays here and there too).

2. where is the best place to start? Any good companion books?

3. Should I just put the whole idea on hold until I take a political theory course that covers him in any depth?

thanks dudes
