your interpretation of 1984

Book Review: 1984 by George Orwell

¬Pros
-Dynamic relation of totalitarian societies of the past with the totalitarian society in 1984
-The last quarter of the book was very well written and extremely riveting
- Interesting critique of contemporary society (violent movies, popular news, historic interpretations)
-Interesting discussions of social engineering
-Interesting and original terminology
-Inclusion of Orwell’s ideas about the effect and power language has to influence the conveyance of ideas and understanding of the universe
-Inclusion of Orwell’s interesting life experience
Cons
-Badly done romance (even if he was going for hate being the basis of a relationship, he did it terribly)
-Not terribly original genre (dystopian has been done)
-Bland, one dimensional characters
-Considering the content, the book could have been much shorter
-Feels like the first 3/4ths of the novel were simply written to uninterestingly set the stage for the last 4th

Score: 7.3/10

Just finished reading 1984. It was the first book I willingly read in my life, and it got me into literature.

My question is- what do I read next? Is there anything similar that I should read?

I'm currently reading George Orwell's 1984, and I was wondering if anyone has any comments about some symbols in the novel, specifically the following. Much is appreciated!

1. The diary
2. The steel engraving
3. The singing thrush
4. The singing Prole washer woman

I wanted to get this book finished (since I have not read it in high school).

So I'm looking for some books to buy, mainly interested in buying books of the post-apocalyptical and dystopias. Any suggestions? :)

1984 is not science fiction

The technological aspects of the story are far removed from the core focus of the story and are merely incidental.
