Thoughts on The Culture series? I'm reading the first one now and I like the story (not too far yet) but the prose and general writing style is kinda irking me. Lots of really simplistic descriptors like "he jumped to the right and then kicked hard" or "he flew really fast in his spaceship" makes me feel like I'm reading a teen fiction sometimes. I'm not expecting some blood meridian type shit but give me a little more than that. Also, Banks uses and insane amount of commas that makes his, sentence structure, incredibly, jarring to read. Do the technical issues get better? I do really like the story and aesthetic so far.

similar to starship troopers.

especially the first book Consider Phlebas always felt like an allegory to the cold war, Bora Horza Gobuchul the protagonist seems like a caricatured version of McCarthy, angry at the culture because "muh freedoms" and not understanding that some people actually like living in the culture.

it makes me think of the culture taking the same role in this book, as the bugs from starship troopers,
however both take completely different routes.
