this started out as a joke but I think I might be certifiable

I think of myself as a writer but am deathly afraid of telling anyone because they'll want to see my work and only two things can happen from that point:

Hey guys. There is this girl I like who likes to read. I was thinking of asking her if she wants to read a book with me. Do you guys have any suggestions for what would be a good book?

We have both read some classic literature but I think that would be too stuffy of a choice. And I also don't think it would be good to read something very long. Something modern would be good, like the Book Thief (except not being a depressing holocaust book).
