Your proof does not conflict with my statement. A proof is an operation of your mind and of mine. I certainly exist so the proof exists.

And I don't deny things exist independently of me. I think they probably do. But "natural law" does not. Observations get made, generalizations get made, get written down, get read and recur. But there is not a referent for the generalization different from the process of induction from particular experience to generalized statement in a mind.

There is not a law of gravitation in the sense that there is gravity. Or so I think. (I might change my mind if someone would pinpoint the location, place, ether or dimensionless extract of existence of the law.)

What is "absolute?" What is "simplicity?" What's the use of words defined in words?

I don't want to quibble. We are convinced of the applicability of our thought to the world. Why wouldn't we think much of it to exist in the same way as a cheese sandwich? But I don't think it does. I think we kid ourselves. We are built to be unable to distinguish reality and our idea of reality. We then take our inability as proof of identity.

And yes, it's disturbing. If I'm right, much intellectual effort has been pointless.

Nominalism I wouldn't claim. More of a materialist with a workable notion of how a mind can be made. (Out of Lego blocks, if you want - I think. Turing used a TV set.) Very limited.

Oh, and no great literary influence, except perhaps Samuel Johnson. Spiritual influence: Lord Krishna.

Nice talking to you.

Pic related.

Nothing about this in

Teuffel & Schwabe
Dill
Martial
Historia Augusta

Suetonius makes special mention of the rape of an 11(?)-yr old girl prior to her murder.

So am suspicious.
