however, i recently saw an interesting observation here on /lit/, that pretentiousness is akin to competing above your weight class intellectually. sure you probably wont succeed and might get called out, but it can still be an interesting experience in of itself, and one could still aspire to such heights.


i think the integral factor stems mainly not just purporting yourself as learned or not, but caustic airs of abrasiveness, condescension, and insecurity, that are often associated with pretension, but need not be by necessity.
