Hey /lit/. First time poster here and not an avid reader.

I want to buy a surprise gift for a friend thats a lawyer and likes to study political science and history. Problem is that we've been distant for a couple of years and I don't know him that well. Trying to solve this issue I asked his girlfriend to come up with a list of the last books that friend had bought for himself.

Here it is:

>"Law as a Social System" - Luhmann
>"Nations and Nationalism" - Hobsbawm
>"The Invention of Tradition" - Hobsbawm
>"War in Human Civilization" by Azar Gat.

Based on this list, which books would you recommend?

I thought about buying something written by this Hobsbawm fellow but apparently he already owns all of his books.
