If you read literature with an expectation of enjoying the process, you're a hedonist. A hedonist is also the one who scours the shelves and picks for himself the kind of literature that "appeals to him". An intellectually honest man seeks to engage with the works that will unsettle his mind, cause him to be unsure, and confused, even angry. Literature, like all worthwhile activities, isn't supposed to be enjoyable, only it's fruits.
