The theif on the cross didnt have good works nor was baptized, yet he made it to heaven because he simply believed and asked Jesus to save him.

James 2 has "my brethren" in verses 1, 5, 14. It's addressed to already saved Christians, it's not talking about salvation.

Jesus said in John 3:16, the most famous bible verse:
