Italian literature is inherently difficult because all the great authors heavily work on language (like Joyce, Pound, etc). You can choose to read simpler mainstream stuff, but you're gonna waste your time with mediocre stuff. So the best thing you can do is read the few easy novels from the literary canon while you try to master your knowledge with a grammar book, and then move on to the gradually harder stuff. Pick the entry-level books from this chart, Buzzati, Calvino, Bassani, Morante, but also Moravia, Fenoglio and Pavese (except Dialoghi con Leucò). Godspeed, anon.

Italo Calvino, Giorgio Bassani, Carlo Levi and Dino Buzzati are very easy.
