"Catechumen" comes from the Greek "kατηχούμενος". All it means is someone who is being instructed in the faith before becoming a member of the Church.

There are basically two views on this. One is that the Son is ignorant of the day according to his humanity, but not his divinity. The other, which I believe, is that this was simply a way for Jesus to end their questioning w/r/t the specific date. God isn't autistic, He doesn't speak to us like a 1960s cartoon robot.

The Orthodox Study Bible is currently the best English version out there. The footnotes and articles are excellent for someone new to studying Scripture and Christianity.

The Haydock Bible is a heavily annotated Douay-Rheims. Its text is inferior to the Orthodox Study Bible as it's lacking key books (e.g. 3 Maccabees), among other small issues. The Douay-Rheims is still a great version though, the second best you can get in English. But the reason I bring up the Haydock Bible is its annotations. They're incredibly thorough and Fr Haydock heavily cites the Church Fathers.

Save money by skipping the Oxford garbage (I own one and can tell you first hand that it's trash, both the translation and the footnotes) and get an Orthodox Study Bible and a Haydock Bible.
