He never refutes the popular solutions, especially related to God and the concept of vocation. He just says they are wrong.
>Suffering is the mark of heterogeneity with this world. Without this suffering, there is no consciousness of eternity. Soren Kierkegaard.
Suffering is a hallowing out of all that you thought you were, especially your ego.
>Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
The poor in the spirit of man, in the desires of man, are emptied and able to be filled with the grace of God. Without this distraction free emptiness, one cannot hear God.

>that woman in that meeting who, according to her LinkedIn, got a B in A level Physics when I got an A and
she still went to a much better university and is younger than me and has a similar job- truly, the moral arc of the universe bends towards sheer injustice

>Suffering is the qualitative expression of heterogeneity with this world. In this heterogeneity rests the relationship to eternity. Where there is no suffering there is no eternity's consciousness either, and where there is eternity's consciousness, there too is suffering. It is in suffering that God keeps a person wakeful for eternity (Papers and Journals).

So, is suffering a method of grace? Or is faith a self-deception in an attempt to alleviate suffering?

Backpacking Europe last summer made me this way. Migrants selling selfie sticks outside the Uffizi gallery.
Of course I blame the Anglos for playing in the sand for the past 100 years.

Is there some sort of a Lacan primer or should I just try to read whatever seminar seems interesting, e.g. 20, and try to figure out some of the jargon by seeing it applied? Is Zizek's book on Lacan worth it?

what are some works that deal with the metaphysics of suffering and desire apart from what we just worked out (weill, kierkegaard, mishima for the desire part)?

people were actually talking about books in that malick thread.
it was better than datamining (what's your major), "had had", pol bait #1923414571295 or londonfrog threads. exercise some critical judgment once in a while and don't delete threads that have some reasonable discussion just because the op might not fit on this board.

Is Malick right about suffering here?
Or is it just a cope?
