As a kid who got really immersed into books I read Malazan BoTF in middle school, all the gratuitous brutality made me an edgelord looking to find out how fucked up the world REALLY is. So I would watch gore and seek out mentally ill niche communities at age 14.
I came away from that better than I could have, but yknow, I still use chans

book would have been perfect if it dropped all the plot bullshit, and left you wondering why these idiots are all here and what's going on, and ended with no context save that they reached their goal and each received a brand of 'judgement' by the shrike. but that's probably just me. the same goes for books of the new sun. i don't like le epic overstory giving context to strange and fantastical worlds. save that shit for generic fantasy.

that said about generic fantasy, i have a huge soft spot for pic related, and all the malazan books too. mostly deadhouse tho.

Read the first Malazan book and now I'm 100 pages into this.

When does this get good? Everything's been pretty mediocre so far
