Why'd he do it bros?

Just finished God Emperor of Dune. Not sure what to think of it. I liked most of the book except the ending. I understand it was necessary for the Golden Path, but Frank could have made Siona and Duncan more likable. Duncan in particular made the whole experience unpleasant with his incessant whining and tantrums. Why did Frank keep shoving him into every book? Was he fan favorite or Frank's self-insert? Just started Heretics and Duncan is back again, seemingly even more wanked than ever. For fuck's sake.

Necessarily, there comes a time for every soul to shed such fleshly concerns as "having marketable skills". Marketable skills are nothing more than ways to put your body, self autonomy and precious time in the hands of another human (sometimes themselves trapped by the Narrative agents), to use for themselves as a tool.
The world and times you currently live in is intelligently designed to strip you of your self through various mechanisms and layers that you only think that you need in order to live on. The deeper you're sinking, the more perverse, tricky and specialized these mechanisms are, and the thicker the layer of field out of which you must swim if you want salvation.
Some of these mechanisms are addictive, some are enticing, some constrain you. This is the Narrative, the intelligent societal design towards which every little detail and frustration lead. The Narrative's sole purpose is to keep you trapped and addicted to coping, make no mistake about that. You are the protagonist and all the Narrative wants is to keep you in the story.
The poor are nothing more but souls such as yourself trapped in thick layer of field. Its is simply another mechanism of keeping them in. For some is being poor, for some is being rich, but all of them are affected by the Narrative, and what the Narrative wants out of you is clear as day.

The point of God Emperor is that Leto II is also an autistic retard, because he's so detached and alien, living in a utopian ideal of his own imagination, and in the end the nature of life itself cannot be changed. Right? That's the way I see it. Paul was a take on charismatic leaders and how they can manipulate and guide the people. Leto II(I) was a take on "64D Chess" leaders with the "best intentions" who also end up falling prey to their own hubris, because they refuse to see reality and nature as they are, and seek to pacify it and change it. Paul abused the Prophecies, whereas Leto tried to do away with structure itself. In the end Paul was the more human one, whereas Leto was an autistic god who couldn't grasp the nature of being and the need of hierarchy.

At least that's what I'm getting. Buying Leto's musings completely and taking it all at face value seems too simple and empty to me.
