I think English is one of the greatest languages on the planet because of its versatility in style and prose. I mean, the gap in style and prose between Blood Meridian and Pride and Prejudice for example is so great they might as well be written in different languages, and English really is the only language that can do this. My native language Norwegian can't. There is no Blood Meridian, or Moby Dick, or Ulysses in Norwegian for a reason.

That's not to say there aren't great books in my language, some of Hamsun's books are masterpieces too, but I really think there something unique about English.

Obviously it's Norway, Knut Hamsun alone is better than anything a Swede or Dane ever wrote, just like Ireland Norway's literature is 1000 times better than its colonial overlord.

Norwegian is funny like that. We have a lot of idiomatic expressions for taking a shit and piss.

Like: "Skvise ut en Snickers" = Squeezing out a Snickers.

"Sjösette Obama" = Set sail to Obama

And for pissing we have stuff like: "Strupe jöden" = Strangling the Jew.
