Is Middle-Earth in Earth's distant past?

Question:
If the society's games are based upon the concept of survival of the fittest, and you leave resenting rebels who have won in their own homes or complexes or whatever, then surely they will continue to see family and friends die.

Thus over the years, the stronk will keep having stronk babbys, but not only are they athletic they have also the skills of stalking and guerilla based tactics, which is a perfect way to counterattack the main bad guys.

You may ask, "But anon, look at the gladiators of Rome! They didn't riot as much!"
Two things. One is Spartacus, two is that the gladiators were given their freedom if they managed to survive somehow avoiding being eaten by animals. The Hunger Games ensures that the strongest winners never have to fight again, and this is after a few battles unlike the gladiators, who fought around 30 fights in order to ensure their freedom.

Why do they let the best survive? It would be more interesting if they were led to believe they'd win them and their families' freedom if they succeeded in killing the competition, only to end up being murdered in order to prevent the strong from coming back. It seems like faulty logic to promote such bullshit "Oh sorry for killing your friends and imprisoning everyone, we molded you into the ultimate guerrilla warrior and we are putting you back into your prison only to inevitably kill more of your friends."

I am trying to write fantasy (yes i know it is for man children), but I am slowly realizing my work is too much influenced by Tolkein, as he is all I have read in the genre, are there any other fantasy writers who made as many maps and timelines for his stories as he did?

Yeah, The Life of Pi totally is not a story of survival. There's a chapter entirely dedicated to Pi cutting up a sea turtle for food, but that wasn't about survival, it was about something else. The majority of the book definitely isn't about Pi trying his hardest not to die.

Wormtongue / Wormtail
Shelob / Aragog
Nazgûl / Dementors
Old Man Willow / Whomping Willow
Sauron / Voldemort (both often referred to as 'The Dark Lord'; and both of whom are seeking to recover their lost power after having been considered dead or at least no longer a threat)

What if nihilism is committed to untenable descriptive (metaphysical and empirical) claims about human agency, and what about the deleterious impact of its distinctive lack of norms and values on the flourishing of the highest types of human beings?

>"You may better understand my repulsion to the Jew when I tell you that until I was fourteen years old I do not believe I ever spoke to one or saw one knowingly."

>"The only non-Saxons were niggers whose parents work for our families or cart our ashes, and who consequently know their place."

>"The more I study the question, the more firmly I am convinced that the one supreme race is the Teuton."

>"I'll be shot if three out of every four persons - nay, full nine out of every ten - weren't flabby, pungent, grinning, chattering niggers! Help!"

>"When you see my new tale 'The Horror at Red Hook', you will see what I make of this idea in connexion with the gangs of young loafers and herds of evil-looking foreigners that one sees everywhere."

Oh dear, it seems as though I misspoke. Lovecraft is certainly a bastion of progressive racial tolerance.

Has anyone here ever made any money selling their stories to magazines/ websites/ kindles, or in any way?
How hard is it to sell and publish a short story? I'd imagine it's a lot easier than trying to sell a movie script. I'm asking because I want to try to make some cash by writing (not that much, I would be satisfied with 100$ a story.) The closest I have ever gotten was submitting a short fiction story in a contest and winning 1,000$ a few years back.
