I read mostly sci-fi and mostly men.

I found that men tend to present and explore more original ideas, like Egan's alternative physics in Orthogonal or the short story Luminous where they want to exploit a realm with different physics to do impossible calculations. Or Watts ideas about consciousness. These ideas tend to be the focus rather then just the backdrop. Men tend to genuinely excited about exploring space or editing the human genome.

For women sci-fi seems to be just the backdrop taken from somewhere else. They seem to be use the settings to lectures about morals or for romance. The one good thing I have found that women do much better on a consistent basis, is action. Men seem to focus on describing physical actions they have in their head, but this is simply not very exciting in written form. I think Joe Abercrombie first law trilogy and the expanse books really suffered from this. In contrast the action in the Hunger Games was well done and clever for the most part.

What is your take /litizens on the men vs women debate?
