We all need our sanctuaries, OP. For me it's much like yours, almost monastic, a vacuum of impressions. Just a white walled room with a bed, a table, a chair and a chest. Simple wooden furniture. I enjoy the austerity and the calm it provides. But I can very well understand that someone wants to surround his safe haven with beautiful things. It's the only little piece of the world you have some control over, might as well dwell as best as you can.
