Gene Wolfe's The Wizard Knight books might scratch your itch.

>The setting of the novel features elements from Norse, as well as Christian mythology and a smattering of European sources, such as Arthurian myth, and involves a seven-tiered world that is separate, but not completely detached from ours.

Halfway through this massive tome from Pringles Man. Would recommend -- more accessible than BotNS, would be a good place to jump in with Wolfe. Also a good way for isekai queermos to up their game a bit.

Are there any fantasy authors besides Wolfe with some more philosophical writing?
I like fantasy, but most books I've read so far are very superficial. I dislike books like Legend and First King of Shannara, they were very dull, I almost didn't bother finishing them.

What do you guys think about Gene Wolfe?
I don't see him mentioned often here, but it seems that he is almost revered on Reddit and other places.
Just a meme, or is he actually good?
