I find the beginning of Thus spoke Zarathustra to be fantastic with it's many metaphors and prose. Is this style called something and are there other books that are similar (in style, not the philosophy).

Example:

>You great star! What would your happiness be, had you not those for
whom you shine?
For ten years have you climbed here to my cave: you would have wearied
of your light and of the journey, had it not been for me, my eagle,
and my serpent.
But we waited for you every morning, took from you your overflow,
and blessed you for it.
Behold. I am weary of my wisdom, like the bee that has gathered too
much honey; I need hands outstretched to take it.
I would rather give away and distribute, until the wise among men
once more find joy in their folly, and the poor in their riches.
Therefore must I descend into the deep: as you do in the evening, when
you go behind the sea, and give light also to the underworld, you exuberant
star!
Like you I have to go down, as men say, to whom I shall descend.
Bless me, then, you tranquil eye, that can look on even the greatest
happiness without envy!
Bless the cup that is about to overflow, that the water may flow golden
from it, and carry everywhere the reflection of your happiness!
Behold. This cup is again going to empty itself, and Zarathustra is going
to be a man again.
Thus began Zarathustra's down-going.

"Once the sin against God was the greatest sin; but God died, and these sinners died with him. To sin against the earth is now the most dreadful thing, and to esteem the entrails of the unknowable higher than the meaning of the earth."

Why haven't you read this yet?

No I guess I haven't read Nietzsche.

He had low opinion of women. Also, his view on Equality:

"The order of castes, the highest, the dominating law, is merely the ratification of an order of nature, of a natural law of the first rank, over which no arbitrary fiat, no "modern idea," can exert any influence. In every healthy society there are three physiological types, gravitating toward differentiation but mutually conditioning one another, and each of these has its own hygiene, its own sphere of work, its own special mastery and feeling of perfection. . . A high civilization is a pyramid: it can stand only on a broad base; its primary prerequisite is a strong and soundly consolidated mediocrity. . . Injustice never lies in unequal rights. It lies in the claim of equal rights. . . What is bad? But I have already answered: all that proceeds from weakness, from envy, from revenge. . ." - The Antichrist, passage 57

Just finally picked up a copy of Thus Spoke Zarathustra. Anything important to keep in mind as I read it? I'm not very good at picking up subtleties in books and want to make sure I don't miss anything.

Mishima actually did predict the infantilising of Japanese culture, & compared to the state of things in the 70s, it pretty much seems to have occurred. Witness Murakami's ascendance, not to mention anime, hentai, 'cray-zee' infantile sexuality etc etc. Now as Japan's standing among the tiger economies diminishes, they have become the hollow shell that Mishima railed against.

Those concerned of the outside, foreign forces somehow degenerating Western culture are mistaken. As Nietzsche emphasized; mixing culture can birth something new & vital. While the Athenians merged with the native cultures to produce something new, only Sparta resisted & of all the Greek states, produced no new or lasting culture. The decay that will destroy the West will come from within. The four horsemen will be Nostalgia, Materialism, Triviality, & Irrelevance. & the Greatest of these Shall be Irrelevance!

I think the majority of us are skeptical of your naivete (that's where the troll accusations come from) but compelled to respond to your convictions. It is quite clear that not only do you lack any knowledge of Nietzsche, you lack common philosophical knowledge that led up to his rejection of Platonism. If you have achieved some level of understanding for Hegel or Stirner (Hell, even Kant), your own words will sound immature. Your perspective of the world is precisely the monolithic, good-is-good, unquestioning kind that compels you to defend it to the bitter end, all the while you refuse to even start reading Nietzsche because of his 'fans', who, for reasons unknown to me, is patient enough to try to convey an important education.

What Nietzsche does well, is in his aphorism related to a particular subject, he never ceases to convey a penetrating psychological insight into a movement/people/ideology because he has a deep understanding of it before speaking. What this writer betrays in his two aphorisms alone is a superficial understanding of the PUA movement, in fact I would characterize PUA stuff to essentially address: if you don't have money, how do you find success with women?

Then the commentary devolves into fag calling and placing PUAs directly into an enemy camp, which is something Nietzsche will never do and what the Last Men always does. I argue that if he really understood the style of Nietzsche, he would seek to ironize (if that is a word) the intentions of a pickup and speak from above, which I doubt he is capable of.

Nietzsche never strives to be the polar opposite... that's why he used the prophet Zarathustra, as someone who first induced good and evil into light and darkness.

contd.

Master vs. Slave, then, is precisely the opposite of what OP's question is trying to ascertain. N has at times displayed a great respect for the spirituality of the Jewish people, though it may seem he is all for the blond beast. The takeaway is about YOU. How can you become an unprecedented value evaluator knowing cultural tendencies?
