Genre fiction shit, I know, but it captures the shittiness of the 80s perfectly. It's just so depressing and pessimistic. The knowledge that people thought the world was this bad at one point that this is a metaphor for life in the 80s is sobering to how far we've come.

Don't know if it counts as horror, really, but it's a great read even if just for how genre defining it is.

And if you're looking for something a bit more lighthearted or spoopy than full on horror stories, a lot of paranormal detectives might wet (whet?) your whistle.
